Release Notes: Push Notifications on Content Update
Pinned FeaturedOn July 7th 2014, we released a feature that will allow app builders to have Push Notifications automatically sent when certain content is updated within the app.
In order for this feature to be available, your app must be on the iTunes or Google Play app stores and Push Notifications need to have been setup. For information about setting push notifications please view the following articles:
Push notifications for iOS
Push notifications for Android
How it works:
Every hour, our system will run a script that checks for any apps that have been updated during last hour. The system will send a push notification if the app meets the following requirements:
- The app has been submitted (there is at least one download)
- There were no push notifications sent in the last 24 hours
- The Send Push notifications on Content Update feature is enabled (App Dashboard -> Settings);
- One of the following widgets were updated:
- events: added new event
- photo gallery: added new photo
- audio: added new audio
- video: added new video
- shopping cart: added new item
- directory: added new item
- menu: added new item
- grouped contacts: added new item; changed existing item
- book store: added new item
- coupons: added new item
NOTE: once the app is qualified for push notifications on content update (there is at least one download), it should display an option (checkbox) to disable/enable sending push notification on content update in the Settings section (App Dashboard)
Use Cases
- The app is launched on a mobile device
If the app is already launched on a device, the user will not see any updated unless they restart the app. To inform the user, the Push Notification will initiate a popup:
EN: “The app content has changed. Please restart the app: close the app and open it again.”
RU: “Приложение обновилось. Пожалуйста, перезапустите приложение.”
- The app is not launched (nor opened, nor in the app tray): the push notification will show up on the Push Notification center; when clicked, it will launch the app.
EN: “Check our recent updates!”
RU: TBD
